It is suitable for feeders requiring ANSI/IEEE standards and ring-lug terminals in grounded and ungrounded distribution systems.
Three different standard configurations are available from comprehensive single breaker configuration to enhanced one-and-half breaker and double bus, double breaker configurations with directional overcurrent, voltage and frequency protection, synchronism check, power and energy measurements and fault location. All configurations also include reclosing, load profile and phase step distance as standard and also offer power quality, arch flash detection and additional binary I/O as option.
The REF620 also offers a cable fault detection (CFD) feature for real-time detection and notification of short duration, high current feeder faults where the substation breaker does not operate. Knowledge of fuse-operated outages before first customer call and of incipient underground (insulation) and overhead (vegetation) faults without outage is possible with CFD.

The 620 series has been designed to unleash the full potential of the IEC61850 standard for communication and interoperability of substation automation devices including fast, horizontal relay-to-relay (GOOSE) communications for cost-effective, reliable and high-speed protection and control schemes.
